Blandae Roman Town – Interpretation Center

Blandae was one of the cities that the Romans founded in Catalonia. Archaeological discoveries in recent years have allowed us to find out a lot of information and now we can begin to reconstruct its history, from its foundation in the 1st century BC to its evolution towards medieval Blanes.

At the Blandae Roman Town Interpretation Centre, we learn what we currently know about the ancient civitas of Blandae, thanks to archaeological excavations. It begins with a general vision of the Roman world, which allows us to contextualize the birth of Blanes 2,100 years ago, and realize how the dense commercial network of the time connected the city of Blandae with the Mediterranean and, at the same time, with the ager, its hinterland and its closest area of influence.

We then approach the objective of discovering what the urban core of Blandae was like, with its streets and houses, and how -from a selection of the most significant archaeological objects located in the latest archaeological excavations-, we can know some things about the day-to-day life of its inhabitants, how they lived, their customs, etc.

And, finally, we will travel through the centuries to the moment when Roman Blandae gave way to medieval Blanes and, ultimately, to the origins of the current city.

We welcome you to the BLANDAE ROMAN TOWN Interpretation Center. AVE BLANDAE!
