The International Fireworks Competition on the Costa Brava

With more than a century of tradition with fireworks, one of the most amazing and essential events in Blanes is this festival of lights, colours and smoke that every year in July attracts thousands of visitors to our beaches. Fireworks are launched from Sa Palomera, an incomparable setting to light up the sky and delight the audience in an unforgettable night at the end of July. You can also enjoy many concerts spending a great night outside.

It is likely that anyone who has visited Blanes in the last hundred years has seen or hear about this great show, with written references dating back to 1891. It is kwown that the event stopped during the Civil War (1936-1944). Since then, this celebration has become firmly established every summer, making impossible to think about summer without fire, colours and smoke.
Nowadays, this event sees record crowds: between 120.000 and 150.000 spectators per day. That is a total of nearly one million people that during the Festa Major fill up beaches, promenades and terraces looking up at the sky and being pleased with this show with fireworks.

But it has not always been a competition. This event was first held in the 1970s, becoming an attractive setting for the best pyrotechnics companies in the world.
